The Town of Oyster Bay’s Ice Hockey Program is a recreational and instructional program designed to give youngsters and adults of our Town a way to learn the correct fundamentals of one of America’s most popular sports. Youth clinics are open to children ages 6-16. In addition to receiving instruction on the proper techniques of skating, stickhandling, and shooting, children will make new friends and create lifelong memories. Learn-to-Play consists of 10 clinic sessions designed for adults of all ages to learn the fundamentals of ice hockey and improve their abilities.

House leagues meet on varying days/times, please select the date range for the specified league to view all meeting dates and times. PLEASE NOTE: Schedule dates/times are subject to change based on the registration count.

Level 1: Introduction to Water Skills
• Blowing bubbles/ submerge mouth, nose, and eyes
• Flutter kicks while holding onto the ledge
• Floating on back with guidance from the instructor
• Arm and hand treading actions
• Bobbing to keep head out of water
• Understand how to stay safe around pools and bodies of water


Level 2: Basic Swimming Skills
• Flutter kicks using kickboard with instructor’s assistance
• Fully submerge under water and hold their breath
• Open eyes under water and retrieve submerged objects
• Float on back independently
• Jump from side of pool into shoulder-deep water
• Tread water for 15 seconds


Level 3: Stroke Development
• Jump into deep water from the side, submerge,
then return to the surface to the entry point
• Headfirst entry from the side in seated and kneeling positions
• Float on back for 1 minute
• Push off wall in streamlined position, then begin kicking
• Swim elementary backstroke for 15 yards
• Flutter, Scissors, Breaststroke, and Dolphin kick techniques


Level 4: Stroke Improvement
• Swim underwater
• Tread water, using two different kick techniques
• Diving techniques
• Intro to turning at wall
• Elementary backstroke for 25 yards
• Breaststroke for 25 yards
• Back crawl for 15 yards
• Butterfly and Sidestroke for 15 yards
